Dear FastCap2 users,

I have been trying to model the capacitance of a double dot system with the total capacitance of one dot =30 af as per the journal am reviewing. Following the same dimensions presented in the journal my results in fastcap2 are 3816femto farads instead of 30af. i suspect my geometry is not meshed to the standards and when i try to use fastercap it hugs.

Kindly help me understand how to mesh in fastcap2 to archive a reasonable refinement mesh.

Best regards

Ken

Could you share your model and maybe for completeness the reference to the paper you cite?

Best Regards,
Enrico

Hi Ken...I am a new user in fast cap. I also wanna get capacitance of double dot system. Can you please help me how to use list file and how to do meshing ? Do I need to purchase this software ?
Thanks

As Kenneth and I continued the discussion via email, I realize now that the thread was left open.

This is my answer to Kenneth at the time:
quote:

I checked first the validity of the model, as I saw it had issues converging to the solution.

I found that the model is invalid for being used as input for either FastCap or FasterCap, as there are many overlapping faces / panels. This would also explain why FasterCap hangs, since it is more sensitive to overlapping panels than FastCap. Anyway, in spite of the relative sensitivity to this issue, both solvers produce wrong results in this case.

You can check, as an example, the structure defined in the file P2_Oxide.qui. You can see, for instance examining this single structure with FastModel and removing some faces, that the 'L' shaped conductor and the box that sits on it have coincident, overlapping faces. This must be avoided.

Please remember that panels can not overlap also when they are conductor panels and dielectric interface panels.

For your other questions, you must first learn how to use FastCap / FasterCap. This is not difficult, you can start watching the video available at the link on the right at the 'products' page.

Meshing a geometry requires either a script or the usage of some export tool to .lst file format. We have a draft tool available for FreeCAD, a completely free and powerful 3D cad program available for Linux and Windows (and Mac as well, actually).

If you need to use FasterCap, yes you need to buy it, but you can test it for free, the demo will last one month, and if needed you can ask for an extension.

Best Regards,
Enrico
