Hi, Enrico.

I'm starting to study superconductors and don't know nuch about it but I was wondering how would FastHenry compare with other tools like HFSS (Ansys) to determine the inductance? I know that it doesn't do the full wave simulation as Ansys's but as an initial guess, would it be good?

Thanks very much in advance.

Enrico

Hi Cadu,

FastHenry does not perform a full wave simulation, but in the version by S.Whiteley can consider superconductive materials using the two-fluid model. It would not be an initial guess: within the validity of the model, it is a correct numerical solution. You can refer to the following papers for further details:

Du, Z., Whiteley, S. R., & Van Duzer, T. Inductance calculation of 3D superconducting structures Applied superconductivity, 6(10-12), 519-523, 1999

Fourie, C. J., Wetzstein, O., Ortlepp, T., & Kunert, J. Three-dimensional multi-terminal superconductive integrated circuit inductance extraction Superconductor Science and Technology, 24(12), 125015. 2011

Also, we also supported the development of SuperVoxHenry, adding the capability to support superconductors in the same way done for FastHenry. You can find the relevant description here:

Wang, M., Qian, C., Di Lorenzo, E., Gomez, L. J., Okhmatovski, V., & Yucel, A. C SuperVoxHenry: Tucker-enhanced and FFT-accelerated inductance extraction for voxelized superconducting structures IEEE Transactions on Applied Superconductivity, 31(7), 1-11 2021

Best,
Enrico
