Posted - Mar 31 2018 : 20:41:31 Exactly what it means in English: panels cannot partially or totally overlap, i.e. occupy the same (planar) region of the space. This is different from what happens in some FEM software, where conductors are actually shorted together if they touch or intersect. FastCap2 and FasterCap uses a Boundary Element Method (BEM) where the field is solved only on the surfaces (i.e. the volume boundaries in 3D). Mutual inductance requires a double integral between panels; if panels overlap, the integral becomes singular (the distance of some of the points on the panels is zero). This anyway reflects a non-physical condition: two boundaries cannot occupy the same space at the same time.
